The summer training program for Italian undergraduate and graduate students at the Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory of Fermilab (Batavia, Illinois, USA) started in 1984 as a 2 month training program for Italian undergraduate students in physics of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) collaborating in the Collider Detector experiment (CDF) at the Fermilab Tevatron proton - antiproton collider.
