Summary

This paper describes the Hard X-ray Imager (HXI) instrument deployed aboard the Hitomi X-ray observatory, a space-based astronomical observatory launched in February 2016. The HXI comprises semiconductor detectors and supporting instrumentation designed for X-ray imaging spectroscopy in the 5–80 keV energy range. The work is entirely technical and instrumental in nature, documenting hardware specifications and operational performance for astrophysical observations.
