A transatlantic collaboration between Vitagri and the Bionutrient Institute — building the world's most detailed dataset on farming systems and nutritional outcomes.
The Bionutrient Institute is the world's leading research organisation on the relationship between soil biology, farming practice, and food nutritional quality. Based in the United States, it has spent over a decade building the evidence base and measurement tools that underpin the growing nutrient-density movement globally.
Vitagri and the Bionutrient Institute are collaborating to apply this expertise to the UK food system — combining US scientific leadership with Vitagri's UK market knowledge, policy relationships, and the evidence synthesis of the Growing Health white paper.
Together, we are building a shared predictive data model that links farming systems to nutritional outcomes across two continents — creating the world's most credible dataset for verifying nutrient-dense food production.
"The relationship between how we farm and what ends up in our food is real, measurable, and actionable. We now have the tools to prove it."

Algorithms that link near-infrared spectroscopy data to nutritional outcomes — reducing testing costs and enabling rapid, scalable on-farm verification. Applications currently in development for beef, wheat, and potatoes.
Combining the Bionutrient Institute's 10,000+ farm sample database with Vitagri's UK pilot farm network — building the world's most comprehensive dataset on the relationship between farming practice and crop nutritional quality.
Developing outcome-based farm assurance guides — moving beyond process standards to verified nutritional outcomes. Applicable across conventional, organic, and regenerative farming systems, regardless of certification label.
Vitagri and the Bionutrient Institute have active Innovate UK ADOPT project applications in three priority commodity areas — a combined funding value of £300,000.
These projects will generate the first large-scale UK dataset directly linking farming practice variables to crop nutritional outcomes — forming the scientific foundation of the GroundUp Framework verification system.
