Native coronary artery or bypass graft percutaneous coronary intervention in patients after previous coronary artery bypass surgery: A large nationwide analysis from the Netherlands Heart Registration

Summary

This nationwide Dutch registry study examined 12,822 patients with prior coronary artery bypass surgery who underwent repeat percutaneous coronary intervention between 2017 and 2021. Isolated native vessel interventions were performed in 75.2% of cases, whilst acute coronary syndrome presentation was strongly associated with bypass graft interventions. At one-year follow-up, interventions including bypass grafts showed higher rates of major adverse cardiac events (19.7% versus 14.3%), driven primarily by target vessel revascularisation rather than mortality differences.

Regional applicability

This study was conducted in the Netherlands and reports outcomes from a nationwide Dutch registry.
