Methodology. A study counts towards a topic when the topic's term is in its title, its one-line topic or its topic tags — what the study is about — not when its summary mentions the term in passing. Studies are placed by publication year; the few with no publication year count in the headline total but not on the chart. Each topic is fit with a Poisson regression on its annual counts, with the partial current year included through a log(exposure) offset (the share of the year elapsed), so the forecasts are full-year figures. The shaded band when a topic is focused is a 95% interval widened for the year-to-year scatter in the counts (quasi-Poisson), not the narrower pure-Poisson band. These are counts in the Pulse Brain catalogue, which holds more recent studies than older ones, so they show where the catalogue's evidence is growing rather than the size of the whole literature. Pure exponential growth is reasonable one or two years out, not further. Numbers are computed live from the catalogue on each visit.

How to read this. The chart shows the number of catalogue studies per period that are about your term: it is in the study's title, its one-line topic or its topic tags (a mention in passing in a summary does not count). Separate alternatives with | to count studies about any of them, for example organic farm|organic food. It is a measure of publication attention, not of scientific consensus — a rising line means the term is being written about more often, not necessarily that the underlying claim is becoming more accepted. Use the top-papers list per period to read what's actually being said.
Pulse Brain is curated for UK relevance. International literature is included when it bears on UK food and health, but the catalogue is not exhaustive of all global research on a topic.
