Summary

This Phase II trial of atezolizumab with or without radiotherapy for advanced penile squamous cell carcinoma did not meet its primary endpoint of 1-year progression-free survival. However, a subset of patients demonstrated durable responses to atezolizumab monotherapy. The authors identify human papillomavirus infection status and CD8+ T-cell tumour infiltration as potential predictive biomarkers that may enable better patient selection for immunotherapy in this rare malignancy.
