This narrative review synthesises evidence on inflammasome activation in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly through canonical pathways triggered by accumulation of misfolded proteins such as beta-amyloid and alpha-synuclein. The authors argue that inflammasome-mediated release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β and IL-18) and induction of pyroptosis exacerbate neuroinflammation and disease progression, making inflammasomes viable therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative disease intervention.
