Summary

This panel study of 30 Chinese provinces demonstrates that digital economy development significantly enhances agricultural economic resilience, with agricultural technological innovation acting as a partial mediator (accounting for 19.37% of the total effect). The relationship exhibits nonlinear threshold effects, with the resilience-enhancing impact of innovation strengthening as digital economy maturity increases. The digital economy generates positive spatial spillover effects on agricultural resilience, though the coupling coordination between digital economy and innovation remains relatively low, suggesting unexploited synergy potential.

Regional applicability

This study is specific to Chinese provincial contexts and policy frameworks. Findings on digital economy drivers and technological innovation pathways may have limited direct transferability to United Kingdom agricultural systems, which operate under different market structures, regulatory environments, and technological infrastructure; however, the methodological approach and insights on threshold effects and spatial spillover could inform UK research on agricultural resilience and digital adoption.

Outcomes reported

The study measured how digital economy development and agricultural technological innovation jointly affect agricultural economic resilience across 30 Chinese provinces, using entropy weight methods and examining direct impacts, transmission mechanisms, threshold effects, and spatial spillover effects.
